Holidays and Closures

In accordance with the legal holidays of the State of Mississippi, as listed in section 3-3-7 of the Mississippi Code and based on library usage during holidays, Lamar County Library System observes the following holidays upon which all libraries are closed:

The following dates include State and Governor’s Proclamation holidays as well as closing dates set by the Lamar county Board of Trustees. Libraries close for computer upgrades, special projects, and staff development days throughout the year.

New Year’s Day – January 1st
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – 3rd Monday in January
Presidents’ Day – 3rd Monday in February
Good Friday – Friday before Easter Sunday
Memorial Day – Last Monday in May
Independence Day – July 4th
Labor Day – First Monday in September
Armistice Day – November 11th
Thanksgiving Day – 4th Thursday in November
Christmas Day – December 25th

Holidays which fall upon a Saturday will be taken on the preceding Friday; holidays which fall upon a Sunday will be taken the following Monday.

The Governor of Mississippi has the authority to, and does occasionally, grant state employees additional called holidays such as the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve. Lamar County Library System will observe the called holidays as proclaimed by the Governor.

Additionally, Lamar County libraries close for needed repairs, maintenance, and mandatory staff training. Such closings will be posted in our library locations and on the website.
